Feeding Regemin

Our animals dine on a mixture of culinary delights suitable for their palate. While we both order our food as well as breed our own, we have available for them, rats, mice, quail, rabbits or chickens, depending upon who wants what at feeding time. We generally prefer to feed our animals thawed rats where possible, or if required, mice. Quail and chicken are usually offered as food substitutes for finicky feeders or as a unique treat or change in their diet.

We also do not power feed our animals, we prefer that they age naturally as they would in the wild to stave off any acquiring a liver disease from too much feeding. The only time where we give extra food to our animals is to our breeder females at the beginning of the year to assist them in having the extra weight to recover from maternal incubation after breeding season, should it be needed.

Recently hatched Neonates are fed hopper mice or pinkie rats only after their first shed and up to 3 months from hatch date depending upon whether they can be upgraded to the next size of food. From here animals are fed appropriately per fortnight.

Up to 6 months of age, depending upon what we have started the animal on or its taste in food we try them on 1 weaner mouse or a fuzzy rat per fortnight, or double the lower level of food portion.

From 6 to 12 months, its onto a single adult mouse or a hopper rat per fortnight, or double the lower level of food portion.

1-2 years, we offer 1 weaner rat, 2 adult mice or 1 jumbo sized adult mouse per fortnight or double the lower level or food portion.

2-3 years, we offer 1 small rat, or appropriate food per fortnight or double the lower level or food portion.

3-4 years, we offer 1 medium rat, or appropriate food per fortnight or double the lower level or food portion.

4-5 years, we offer 1 large rat, or appropriate food per fortnight or double the lower level or food portion.

5-6 years, we offer 1 extra large rat, or appropriate food per fortnight or double the lower level or food portion.

6-7 years, we offer 1 jumbo rat, or appropriate food per fortnight or double the lower level or food portion.

7-8 years, we offer 1 super jumbo rat, or appropriate food per fortnight or double the lower level or food portion.

8 years and over, we offer an appropriate feed per fortnight.
