Breeding Projects
Here is a list of the projects in regards to carpet pythons morphs we would like to work on. Some of the ideas we already have animals for, some we don't, they are in no particular order. For security reasons we will not list all of our animals in detail, only those on the appropriate pages as to what we may be breeding each season.
Striped and Tiger morph carpets - This is going to be our primary focus here at Serpentaria. Most of the genetics for striping is polygenic and this will involve line breeding, however with the Centralian, it is recessive, and with the Murray Darling and Diamond types, it has not been proven out as yet.
Hypos and Hypers - This is on top of our striped projects. Hypomelanism creates a pattern whereas there is little or no dark/black pattern bordering on the animals coat. Whereas Hypermelanism is the opposite and creates more dark/black scalation upon the coat.
Reduced patterns - This is also in line with our striped projects. This gene can create a reduction in the overall darker topcoat pattern of the animal, creating more of the lighter pattern or base coat.
Co Dominant Morphs - These currently include the following proven genetics, Caramel, Jaguar and Zebra. These genes only require one parent to reproduce, but with two parents, you can create a visual super form. The Jaguar gene creates a highly reduced pattern in the animal, the super form, the Leucistic Jaguar, a patternless animal with dark eyes is currently lethal, none survive past a few months or weeks nad breeders do not see it as a feasable breeding project. The Caramel gene exibits itself in an increase of red and yellow genes and the animal becomes more yellow as it gets older, it also exhibits a hypomelanistic effect on the pattern in some extreme cases and the pattern is highly variable. The super form is highly variable, generally creating more yellow and more hypomelanism in the coat pattern, some even having no black at all. The Zebra shows a tight nit labyrinth pattern, and the super form is completely patternless bar a darker smudge of scalation upon the top of the head.
Recessive morphs - These currently include the following proven genetics, Albino, Granite, Panther and Axanthic. Axanthism creates a colouring with low levels of, or colours completely devoid of any yellow pigments. Albinism or Amelanism creates an animal that is devoid of any black scales, depending upon how the albino animal produces tyrosinase, the colours exhibit themselves in tones or orange, yellows and lavender whites. The Panther genes exhibits itself with a fully and shiny black top coat and leaving the underbelly lighter coloured or speckled. Granite genes exhibit themself in a completely obliterated pattern type, individual scales are coloured in random amounts to create a marblised coloured animal in a variety of shades depending upon its type.
Paradox patterns - Even though for the most part these animals are unproven, it seems they may come from twins that merge back together early in the development process inside the egg, creating a visual blending of two completely different genetics types exhibted upon the animal that ordinarily would not be possible otherwise. Pied animals would seem to come from the same genetic development but as yet have not been proven in Carpet pythons.
Morph Combinations - These are variations and combinations of the above. Other morphs include the Axanthic Albino (Snow morph), Hypomelanistic Snow (Moonglow morph), Axanthic Zebra, Albino Zebra, Albino Jaguar, Super Zebra Panther, Jaguar Granite, Super Caramel, Super Zebra, Axanthic Granite, Zebra Granite, Caramel Granite, Caramel Jaguar, Snow Jaguar, Ghost Jaguar, Sunglow Jaguar, Caramel Zebra Jaguar, Super Caramel Zebra Jaguar, Axanthic Jaguar, Caramel Zebra, Zebra Jaguar, Hypomelanistic Axanthic (Ghost morph), Caramel Albino (Sunglow morph), Caramel Ghost, Super Zebra Jaguar Snow, Axanthic Jaguar and others.
Below is a projection of projects we may work on over the coming years. As we gain new animals, projects will be added. Please note that projects listed here are not definite, ideas will be added, changed or removed depending upon changes in our collection, due to animal health/size or other issues.
